- Develop and implement VDO's communications and media strategy in alignment with organizational goals and programmatic priorities.
- Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communications channels.
- Support visibility and advocacy initiatives by creating impactful communication products tailored to diverse audiences (donors, partners, communities, authorities).
- Manage VDO's official social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) with timely updates.
- Plan and execute a content calendar ensuring regular, engaging, and relevant posts.
- Oversee updates to VDO's official website, ensuring content accuracy, user-friendliness, and alignment with VDO's image.
- Monitor online engagement and analytics, producing reports for management.
- Draft, edit, and approve communications materials including success stories, blogs, press releases, brochures, and newsletters.
- Develop creative content (text, graphics, photography, video) to highlight VDO's program achievements.
- Ensure all communications materials reflect VDO's strategy, programming, and donor visibility guidelines.
- Work closely with program teams to collect field-based stories, testimonies, and impact evidence.
- Coordinate production and printing of VDO's promotional materials (brochures, flyers, banners, reports, newsletters).
- Ensure timely production of videos showcasing VDO's programs and field activities.
- Liaise with vendors (printers, designers, videographers) for quality, cost-effective, and on-time delivery.
- Organize and manage media coverage of VDO events, launches, and campaigns.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on communications, branding, and visibility.
- Collaborate with program managers and field staff to identify key stories and opportunities for visibility.
- Coordinate with donor communications focal points for alignment and approval of communications outputs.
- Ensure all communications adhere to VDO policies, donor guidelines, and ethical standards (including safeguarding, data protection, and PSEAH principles).
- Maintain an archive of communications materials (digital and hard copy).
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual communications reports for management and donors.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, International Relations, or related field (Master's degree desirable).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in communications/media roles within NGOs, UN agencies, or development sector.
- Proven experience in social media management, website content management systems (e.g., WordPress), and multimedia production.
- Strong skills in content writing, editing, and storytelling in English, Dari, and Pashto.
- Demonstrated experience with video production, graphic design software (Adobe Suite/Canva), and photography.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
- Understanding of Afghanistan's socio-political context and sensitivity to cultural norms.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey messages clearly and effectively.
- Creativity & Innovation: Ability to develop innovative communication strategies and tools.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with program, operations, and leadership teams.
- Accountability: Ensures accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in all communications outputs.

- Reports directly to the Head of Communications Department or Executive Director.
- Works in close coordination with program teams, M&E, and external partners.
- Provides regular updates and reports on communications outputs and impact.
