Vacancy AnnouncementDate: 18.03.2024Vacant Position: Country Director, DACAAR Kabul, Afghanistan.Danish Committee for Aid to Afghan Refugees, DACAAR, is looking for an experienced Country Director to efficiently lead the organisation towards its vision.Background:DACAAR is a Danish NGO with a strong Afghan identity and brand. It works for poverty reduction and assistance to Afghan returnees, internally displaced people and host communities. The organisation is widely recognized as a leading NGO involved in the emergency responses and development of Afghanistan.Afghanistan is facing one of the most serious humanitarian crises in the country´s history.DACAAR’s focus is on those most at risk.Profile of the candidate:Preferable a minimum 10 years, of which at least 5 abroad, of managing and leading complicated international operations, preferably in the field of development assistance. This includes experiences of fund raising, personnel management, human resource development and financial management.Holding a Masters and/or PhD degree in management, public administration, international development, social science or the equivalent.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and motivate a team;proven experience with strategic planning; organisational development; fundraising; donor relations; programme and financial management; human resources management; reporting; monitoring & evaluation.Proven experience with high level negotiations with government authorities and donors and collaboration and coordination with international and civil society organisations.Proven experience with safety management in a highly insecure environment.Work experience from and knowledge about Islamic culture in general and Afghanistan in particular is an advantage.Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Dari and/or Pasto is an advantage.You are extrovert with an active interest in leadership of large and complex operations and have excellent diplomacy and negotiation skills as well as proven adequate results in the field.Strong analytical and reporting skills and ability to engage in political processes.Excellent negotiation, advocacy and communication skills. Ability to live, travel and work in an insecure, isolated and changing environment. Ability to resist external pressures. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability. Innovative and creative thinking.Terms of employment:DACAAR offers a 2-year contract with the possibility of extension up to a total of 5 years. There is a probation period of 3 months.The Country Director will be based in Kabul.The Country Director refers to the Secretary General of DACAAR in Copenhagen and is expected to liaise with the Secretary General on a regular basis.The salary follows DACAARs fixed salary scale and other terms of employment are negotiated individually and reflect that DACAAR is an NGO. The terms also reflect the relatively stressful working environment and includes an attractive R&R arrangement.Workplace is DACAAR HQ in Kabul, Afghanistan. Travel activity both within Afghanistan and to Europe should be expected.Expected starting date: 1 January 2025
