- Ensure assigned detection dog is medically fit, groomed, and prepared for operational duties daily.
- Conduct pre-shift health checks (e.g., hydration, energy levels, injury inspection).
- Administer basic first aid and report veterinary concerns to the K9 Supervisor/Vet immediately.
- Perform security sweeps of aircraft, cargo, baggage, terminals, vehicles, and restricted zones using explosive/narcotic detection dogs.
- Follow standardized search protocols compliant with National & International aviation security guidelines.
- Document and report suspicious substances or threats to the AVSEC Operations.
- Implement daily explosive/narcotic detection trainings to maintain canine proficiency.
- Adapt training programs based on individual dog performance (e.g., scent recognition, obedience).
- Record training outcomes and update K9 certification logs for regulatory audits.
- Maintain clean kennels, training areas, and equipment.
- Ensure dogs receive scheduled rest breaks, hydration, and meals during shifts.
- Monitor play/socialization sessions to prevent inter-dog aggression or injuries.
- Submit daily activity logs detailing searches, training, and incidents.
- Liaise with AVSEC management, veterinary staff, and law enforcement on K9-related issues.
- Assist in emergency response drills (e.g., bomb threats, narcotics interdiction).
- Adhere to departmental work policies and procedures.
- Comply with the Company's internal policies and regulations.
- Uphold sustainability principles by practicing environmentally friendly approaches in job-related activities.
- Fulfil roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Company's response, control, and recovery systems for emergencies and business continuity.
- Abide by safety, occupational health, environmental, and business continuity policies and regulations issued by the Company and relevant authorities.
- Ensure personal safety, as well as the safety of colleagues and the public, by following regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Promptly report accidents, occupational injuries, and environmental impacts in accordance with approved procedures.
- Perform any additional tasks that may arise from time to time to meet operational and organizational requirements.
- High school diploma equivalent/Certificates of K9 Handler
- Must have two-years experience as Dog Handler
- Must have good time management skills
- Must have the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy with record keeping.
